IAEA Draft Safety Guide: DS542 Release of Sites from Regulatory Control on Termination of Activities in Planned Exposure Situations
Overview
ARPANSA coordinates comments on behalf of Australia on IAEA draft documents.
The IAEA is seeking comments from their member states on the following proposed revised guide - IAEA Draft Safety Guide – DS542: Release of Sites from Regulatory Control on Termination of Activities in Planned Exposure Situations.
View the IAEA document here.
Purpose
The objective of this Safety Guide is to provide recommendations on the release of sites (or parts of sites) from regulatory control in planned exposure situations. Such release from regulatory control is possible only after the hazards associated with the former facility are reduced to the acceptable levels that ensure safe future use of the site. The release of sites may necessitate the cleanup of contamination, and this publication provides recommendations on cleanup activities for both remaining structures and soils and subsequent release from regulatory control.
